Hiking and Exploring Talkeetna | Lost & Found EP.06

Welcome back to our sixth episode of Lost & Found! We hope that you all have been enjoying the journey thus far, because we know we sure have!

Our episode picks back up at the Wonder Lake campground in Denali National Park and Preserve. It was our last day before catching the bus back to our truck. Though we were sad to be leaving, the weather took a turn for the worse. We hopped on the bus just as it started to rain.

The bus ride in we didn’t see much by way of wildlife, but on the way back we were treated with views of bears and a heard of caribou!

Once we made it back to the truck we made the journey towards Talkeetna to spend a few days enjoying the town and some hikes in the area. Before coming to Alaska we heard so many lovely things about the town of Talkeetna. We were very excited to finally see what the hype was about!

Roxanne on her way to Talkeetna

We decided to do some hiking in Denali State Park to get another view of the mountain. Sadly, there was a forest fire in the area and the smoke dashed any hopes we had to see the mountain in its entirety.

The view from Denali State Park

Regardless, the view was still delightful and we could see a glacier across the valley. From the state park we ventured into Talkeetna for a few quiet days of work and tasting the local food!

Caribou Tacos made at camp

BY FAR the favorite thing that we tried in Talkeetna was the food at a small Airstream called Talkeetna Spinach Bread! Obviously, they make and sell spinach bread and I know that sounds super simple and how good can it be?! But HOLY COW was it good! So crunchy and flavorful. We also got their Bahn Mi, though not a traditional Bahn Mi it was delightfully tasty and perfectly paired with their Brazilian Limeade. If you go to Talkeetna, do yourself a favor and enjoy the spinach bread!

Once we were content in Talkeetna we ventured further down the road to stage ourselves to explore Hatcher Pass!

This will be the last episode before we take a one month break. We are headed to Mexico for a month to take a work break. We just want to be sure that we can put the same level of care and love into the rest of series as we have thus far and for that to happen, we just need a lil time away from it. It’s more important to us to do it right rather than do it fast. I promise that we’ll be back up and rolling as soon as we return in a month 💫 So we will see you in a month!

Love, MAK & Owen

Thank you to our sponsors

These brands made it possible for us to document our travels through Alaska and turn it into this series. Without their support none of this could happen. We are forever grateful to have brands we already use and love on our side to help us create something we’re proud of!

Our work life is powered by Battle Born. They make the best lithium batteries on the market and are a crucial part of our power system that enables us to work from the road! It took an incredible amount of power to create this series, and we have Battle Born to thank for making it possible.

Power and power management are key to living and working full time from the road. Our mobile lives run on a Redarc Manager 30. It’s a state-of-the-art battery management system that charges and maintains auxiliary batteries by incorporating AC, DC and solar inputs. We’re not sure where we’d be without it!

We’ve now been living out of our flat-bed Four Wheel Camper for 3 years. FWC builds comfortable and durable campers that can fit on any truck. We can confidently say that our FWC is the most comfortable and livable rig we’ve had in all our years on the road!

Maps are your best friend when you’re on the road. On X makes it easy to find open routes and trails no matter where we are. On X allows us to access saved maps offline so we can locate ourselves in the wild when there’s no service.

Main Line Overland is the shop that built our rig, Roxanne. They are incredibly knowledgable on everything overlanding. We chose to work with them because they build thoughtful, reliable and durable vehicles that can get you anywhere you want to be!

Tires can be some of the best insurance when you are out in remote places. We love and trust our Toyo ATIII’s to get us in and out safely, no matter the terrain. They’re amazing in mud, moon dust, loose rocks, slick rock, you name it!

We’ve trusted our Jetboil cooking systems for years. Our favorite, the Flash Cooking system is lightweight, compact and perfect for any trip!
