September 2016 in Photos
September was a very different month for us. We only spent 3 days in the van! The rest of the time was split between England, Wales and Hawaii (where we still are!). It feels like we have been halfway across the world and that is because we pretty much have. There is an 11 hour time difference between the UK and Hawaii.
We traveled to the UK to visit some friends from college and for a wedding. It was my first time to Europe (not Mak's) and it was amazing seeing so much history. It seems like every other building there is older than the United States. After a few days in London we headed to Wales for the wedding and to see some of the beautiful countryside. The wedding was great and our friend, Savanah made the most amazing cake. She is the best! While there we got to explore some of Brecon Beacons National Park. That day we did two 5 mile hikes and saw two very different environments. One was a valley cut by rivers with some areas of dense forests and big waterfalls and the other had incredible rolling hills over vast expanses. It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We also saw beautiful Rhossili and Three Cliffs Bay.
The best food we had in the UK was in Wales. We had afternoon tea, fish and chips, bangers and mash, Yorkshire pudding, and a pig roast! Savanah's mom is a killer cook.
We came back to London for a few more days and did some more sight seeing. There is so much to see that it felt impossible to get to it all. Highlights included Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, drinks at the Shard, and the Tower of London. I know it's all pretty touristy but we loved every minute of it.
Leaving London was sad because it felt like there was still so much more to see, but we had to get to Hawaii. When we got there jet lag was at an all time high. Since then we have been enjoying sun and surf on a regular basis. Mak's second love is the sea (I'm obviously #1) and it's been great seeing her get out there almost everyday. We've also done a handful of hikes and still have plenty more we want to get done before we go. So much to do, so little time.
A huge thank you is owed to our friends Stephen + Sam, and Tim + Jennifer for giving us a place to park and sleep this month. An extra huge thank you goes to our friend Savanah for being our tour guide/hostess/cake boss/amazingly patient and kind person as well as her parents for putting up with us in the UK! And one last major thanks to Ed and Joanne Kertis for hosting us in Hawaii! Until next time, here are our favorite photos from the month. We got our first rolls of film back from our trip so some cool 35mm shots are in here too. ALOHA!
