All Good Things Come to an End | Todo Bien EP.08

The grand finale of Todo Bien is here! Well, it’s been out for a while but we’re a little behind on blog posts (understatement). This episode covers the conclusion of our dreamy three months in Baja.

More specifically, this episode of Todo Bien follows us desperately trying to find waves so that our friend Karissa wouldn’t get skunked on their trip. Unfortunately things weren’t looking good at the last spot we planned to hit heading north. The wind was brutal and we were literally the only people there (never a good sign for a popular surfing spot). After a day waiting for conditions to improve, we waved the white flag and packed up to leave.

Our spot where we impatiently waited for waves.

Once we gave up, we pointed towards the other Gulf of California. We figured if we couldn’t get in and surf, we might as well escape the winds and find a nice place to enjoy our last few days together.

After a long drive across the peninsula, we were rewarded with an absolutely incredible spot. We were surrounded by mountains and right on the water in a protected little cove!

Home for a few days.

After settling in, we noticed something odd about the spot. Despite being on the Gulf of California, a geographically protected body of water, we were seeing waves roll in. Not just messy, wind blown waves either. Nicely formed and spaced waves. We went to bed wondering if we were dreaming. When we woke up the next morning the waves were still rolling in and MAK couldn’t resist. The next few hours Aimee, Karissa, and myself all joined her and had a lovely morning catching waves all by ourselves!

Surfing this beach that shouldn’t have had surf was a genuinely magical experience. It worked out so perfectly, and we ended up finding Karissa some waves after we had all given up hope that we would. After the waves died down, Karissa and Linhbergh packed up and had to make their way back home.

The crew

The rest of our time in Baja was a beautiful whirlwind. We made our way out to another famous surf break to find no waves, took a long 4x4 road to San Ignacio that resulted in a flat tire, and explored a national park with the tallest mountain in Baja. On our last few nights in Mexico we did something a little different than usual. We booked a campground in the wine country and walked around the town, eating, drinking and generally having a good time.

If I had to summarize our time in Baja, I would say it was romantic. We spent more time alone than we ever have before in Mexico and it gave us time to talk and dream together. We walked down deserted beaches for miles and slow danced late into the night. It was everything we hoped for and more. We hope you enjoyed the series as much as we enjoyed making it!
