For as long as we’ve been on the road, we’ve avoided traveling in the Northern Midwest. For no other reason other than the lack of public land. This summer we ventured into the Northern Midwest. So let’s talk about how we navigated and found camping in an area that's notorious for its limited public land as well as the cautions for traveling seldom traveled road and some gear to help you on your way!

How to Start Overlanding
Knowledge will always be your most powerful tool for overlanding, or any type of travel for that matter. Before you head out to start overlanding it’s important to know camping etiquette, Leave No Trace principles, fire regulations, road conditions, if there is likely to be cellphone service, and if there is any specific gear you need to safely travel that area.
Overlanding the Alvord Desert
We rarely drive from point A to point B. Instead, we like to take the scenic route when we are “commuting”. This spring as we started to make our way, slowly, towards the US and Canadian border we wanted to find a creative route to get us off the beaten path so that we can see something new, have some fun and still get to where we need to go.
